The Telangana Congress has called for a Maha Dharna at Indira Park Dharna Chowk on Sunday, September 6, demanding that former Chief Minister and BRS leader KCR resign from his MLA post. Hyderabad and Rangareddy district in-charge ministers Ponnam Prabhakar and Duddilla Sridhar Babu urged party leaders and workers to make the protest a success. The programme will highlight the Congress government’s 1,000 days of governance while targeting what the party describes as the failures of the previous BRS government.
Speaking at a preparatory meeting in Hyderabad, the ministers asked party workers to explain the welfare schemes and development initiatives implemented during the Congress government’s 1,000 days in office. They also called for highlighting KCR’s alleged absence from the Assembly and his alleged failure to act as the Leader of the Opposition on public issues. Ponnam Prabhakar questioned how KCR could continue as an MLA while allegedly drawing a salary for nearly 1,000 days without attending the Assembly or remaining accessible to people in his constituency. He demanded KCR’s immediate resignation and said protests demanding the same had been held across all constituencies in the state over the past two days.
Prabhakar alleged that the previous BRS government caused severe damage to Telangana during its 10-year tenure, claiming that “100 years of destruction” occurred in those 10 years. He said the Congress government’s welfare benefits are reaching people at the grassroots level and asked party workers to explain initiatives such as free bus travel for women, 200 units of free electricity, LPG cylinders at Rs.500, Indiramma houses, farmer welfare programmes, education and healthcare initiatives. The ministers said senior Congress leaders, MLAs, MLCs and public representatives would attend Sunday’s Maha Dharna and directed DCC presidents and constituency in-charges to mobilise large numbers of workers from every constituency in Hyderabad and Rangareddy districts.
The ministers also called on NSUI, Youth Congress, Mahila Congress and other frontal organisations of the party to participate in large numbers. They directed DCC presidents, MLAs and other leaders to inspect the arrangements at Indira Park Dharna Chowk at 4 pm under the leadership of Rajya Sabha MP Anil Kumar Yadav. They also asked constituency in-charges and frontal organisations to coordinate media conferences ahead of the protest. Minister Sridhar Babu participated in the preparatory meeting through teleconference. Minister Azharuddin, Rajya Sabha MP Anil Kumar Yadav, former MPs Madhu Yashki Goud and Anjan Kumar Yadav, MLA Naveen Yadav, DCC presidents from Hyderabad, Rangareddy, Khairatabad and Secunderabad, constituency in-charges, corporation chairpersons and other senior leaders attended the meeting.
