WhatsApp has launched its new Bill Payments feature in India, making it possible for users to find, manage and pay utility bills directly through the messaging app. Powered by the Bharat Connect network, the service provides access to 22,722 billers across 30 categories, including electricity, gas, water, FASTag, insurance, credit card payments and loan repayments. The feature is aimed at simplifying routine bill payments by eliminating the need to switch between multiple apps.
To use the service, users can tap the ₹ icon at the top of the WhatsApp home screen, select a bill category and biller, enter their account details and review the bill amount. Payments can be completed using UPI, debit cards or credit cards. Users can also view previous payments and upcoming bills, while frequently used billers and categories can be accessed more easily from the Payments Home section. WhatsApp said the feature is being rolled out gradually across India and will become available on Android and iOS over the coming weeks.
