Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has expressed confidence that Mumbai could become slum-free within the next 10 years. The state government plans to speed up redevelopment across the city by adopting a cluster-based approach, with a focus on transforming densely populated settlements and providing better housing facilities.
Dharavi is expected to be a key part of this transformation. The first phase of the redevelopment plan is targeting the construction of 10,000 rehabilitation homes by early 2029. The initiative aims to provide improved housing to eligible residents while supporting the broader redevelopment of Mumbai.
