Team India batter Shreyas Iyer is likely to stay away from competitive cricket for the next two to three months. During the third ODI against Australia last month, he suffered a serious injury after landing heavily on the ground while attempting a catch. Reports indicated that he sustained abdominal trauma, including a spleen injury and internal bleeding.
Iyer is currently under the supervision of renowned sports medicine specialist Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala. A recent ultrasound sonography test revealed that although he is recovering steadily, it may take longer for him to regain full match fitness. Doctors have advised him to avoid strenuous exercises that could cause strain on the abdominal region.
Given the situation, Iyer is set to miss the upcoming ODI series against South Africa and the white-ball series against New Zealand in January. His participation in next year’s T20 World Cup and IPL 2026 will depend on how his recovery progresses in the coming months.
He is scheduled for another ultrasound test next week. After about two months, Iyer is expected to begin his rehabilitation program at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.
