BCCI Clarifies Rohit Sharma’s Retirement Rumours

A key meeting concerning Indian cricket was attended in person by ODI and Test captain Shubman Gill, T20 captain Shreyas Iyer, head coach Gautam Gambhir and Centre of Excellence head VVS Laxman. However, chief selector Ajit Agarkar’s absence from the meeting raised eyebrows in cricketing circles. Reports suggested that Agarkar was in a remote location away from Mumbai with limited internet connectivity. Meanwhile, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia dismissed speculation about VVS Laxman being given a new role similar to Director of Cricket. He also clarified that there are no immediate plans to make changes to the selection committee headed by Agarkar.

Saikia stated that the BCCI has no dissatisfaction with the current selection panel and that the same committee will continue for now. He also praised Rohit Sharma’s recent form, particularly after the star batter scored 138 runs at Lord’s during the ODI series against England. Dismissing speculation over Rohit’s place in the team, Saikia said the former captain continues to perform exceptionally well and that his position is not under any immediate threat. The remarks have strengthened indications that the BCCI remains positive about Rohit Sharma being part of India’s plans for the 2027 ODI World Cup.
