Pakistan Hit by Another Blow After England Defeat

Pakistan, already reeling from a heavy Test series defeat against England, has suffered another setback after the International Cricket Council (ICC) penalised the team for a slow over rate. Pakistan bowled 11 overs short of the required rate in the final Test at Birmingham. As a result, the players were fined 50% of their match fees and Pakistan were docked 11 World Test Championship (WTC) points. The ICC imposed the penalty under Article 2.22 of its Code of Conduct after considering the available time allowances.

Under ICC rules, players are fined 5% of their match fee for every over their team falls short, with the maximum penalty capped at 50%. Pakistan reached the maximum fine after falling 11 overs behind. The team is currently ninth in the WTC standings, having won only two of nine Tests and lost seven, leaving them with a points percentage of 4.63. Pakistan will next host Sri Lanka in a two-Test series in November, with matches scheduled in Rawalpindi and Lahore.
