Indian wicketkeeper-batter Yastika Bhatia has been signed by Brisbane Heat for the ongoing Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) season in Australia. The franchise selected her as a replacement for South African all-rounder Jess Jonassen, who has been ruled out for the remainder of the tournament due to a hip injury. Bhatia previously represented Melbourne Stars in the WBBL, but this will be her first appearance for Brisbane Heat. She is also set to be the only Indian player competing in this season’s tournament.
Yastika is expected to join the squad ahead of Brisbane Heat’s second match and could be available for the game against Sydney Thunder. Head coach Mark Sorrell welcomed her inclusion, saying that adding an experienced international player before the tournament was a positive development for the team. He expressed confidence in her ability to help fill the gap left by Jonassen, highlighting her familiarity with Australian pitches. Bhatia has played 26 T20 internationals for India, scoring 374 runs.
