The Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2027 mini auction in Kochi witnessed intense bidding as five franchises competed to strengthen their squads within their limited budgets. Australian all-rounder Sophie Molineux emerged as the biggest signing in the opening rounds, joining UP Warriorz for ₹1.1 crore. India’s Kiran Navgire attracted a bid of ₹75 lakh from Delhi Capitals, while G. Kamalini was signed by Gujarat Giants for ₹40 lakh. Ireland’s Orla Prendergast joined Gujarat Giants for ₹30 lakh, while Sneh Rana and Grace Harris were picked up by UP Warriorz for ₹30 lakh each. Sushma Verma also joined UP Warriorz for ₹30 lakh, while Disha Kasat was acquired by Mumbai Indians for ₹10 lakh.
The auction also produced surprising results, with several established Indian and international players failing to attract bids. England batter Sophia Dunkley, Indian wicketkeepers Uma Chetry and Taniya Bhatia, and spinner Saika Ishaque were among the notable unsold players. Bowlers Tayla Vlaeminck, Rosemary Mair, Titas Sadhu and Saima Thakor also went without buyers. Spinners Asha Sobhana, Priya Mishra and South Africa’s Nonkululeko Mlaba were among those left unsold, along with several emerging all-rounders and wicketkeepers. The results highlighted how franchises prioritised specific squad requirements while working within their remaining purse limits.
