Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has strongly criticised Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi over his remarks on the Tata Group. Advising him not to spread hatred, she questioned his approach to political criticism and urged him to act responsibly while commenting on business matters. Rahul Gandhi had alleged that the Tata Group was being deliberately weakened and said Indian businesses should not become playthings in the hands of political leaders. He also called on business leaders to speak openly about their concerns, adding that his party would work to ensure justice. His remarks triggered a political exchange between the Congress and the BJP.
The controversy comes amid discussions over leadership and governance at Tata Sons, the holding company of the Tata Group. Reports indicate that Noel Tata, chairman of Tata Trusts, raised objections to the process concerning the reappointment of N. Chandrasekaran as executive chairman of Tata Sons. The developments have prompted debate over the company’s leadership and decision-making process. Rahul Gandhi referred to the issue while criticising the Central Government, while Sitharaman rejected his allegations and questioned his statements. The exchange has brought renewed political attention to the Tata Group dispute.
