Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy chaired a review meeting on sewage treatment plants (STPs) and treated water management at the MCR HRD Bodhi Pavilion. Senior officials from various departments, municipal corporations, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board, the power distribution sector and the Pollution Control Board attended the meeting. The Chief Minister instructed officials to introduce artificial intelligence technology at treated water treatment plants, ensure that water quality is never compromised, appoint a special officer for every plant and connect all facilities to a command control centre. He also directed HYDRAA to monitor the plants and called for treated water tankers to be tracked. A toll-free number should be established for treated water services, accompanied by a public awareness campaign.
The Chief Minister directed officials to expand treated water usage for landscaping and road cleaning along the Outer Ring Road and in other areas, as well as at the Secretariat, the Chief Minister’s Office, public parks, railway facilities and metro rail infrastructure. He stressed that treated water must be used for all suitable non-drinking purposes in government offices and that building permissions should include provisions requiring treated water usage. Officials were asked to explore solar power for treatment plants, encourage private STPs and supply treated water to data centres. Revanth Reddy directed the administration to implement the announced measures from November 1, ensure continuous monitoring of drinking water supplies and take preventive steps to avoid future shortages. He warned officials against negligence and stressed the need to plan for future water requirements.
