Former Telangana minister and BRS Legislative Party Deputy Floor Leader Harish Rao strongly condemned the reported house arrest of former minister Sabitha Indra Reddy and the arrests of LB Nagar MLA Sudheer Reddy, MLC Dasoju Sravan Kumar, BRS leader Karthik Reddy and other party leaders ahead of their participation in a public opinion-gathering programme on the Musi River rejuvenation project. Harish Rao accused the government of adopting an authoritarian approach by restricting opposition leaders and described the situation as resembling Emergency-era rule. He questioned the government’s priorities, alleging that it was failing to support drought-hit farmers and people facing hardships while proposing to spend ₹1.5 lakh crore on the Musi rejuvenation project.
Harish Rao also alleged that the government was more focused on commissions than on providing relief to farmers affected by drought. Questioning the use of police to prevent opposition leaders from expressing their views, he asked how long the government would continue to suppress dissent. He said the people of Telangana would respond to what he described as anti-people decisions and attempts to misuse the Musi rejuvenation project for financial gain. On behalf of the BRS, Harish Rao demanded the immediate release of all the party leaders who had been arrested. These remarks reflect the BRS leader’s allegations and criticism of the government over the handling of the Musi project and the action taken against opposition leaders.
