The Marshall Islands-flagged cargo vessel ‘Sigma Pearl’ has reportedly become stranded at sea amid the impact of Cyclone Arnab. The ship was travelling to Singapore after unloading cargo in Visakhapatnam when it became stranded near the Ravva oil field in the KG Basin. Initial reports indicate that an engine failure left the vessel unable to continue its journey.
The Indian Coast Guard has initiated measures to ensure the safety of the crew aboard the vessel. Rescue efforts are reportedly being coordinated from the Mogalthur area in West Godavari district. The Coast Guard vessel ‘Sujay’ has been dispatched to the stranded ship to assess the situation and assist the crew. Authorities are focusing on the crew’s safety as the operation proceeds.
