Former Sri Lankan cricket captain Kumar Sangakkara has criticised Ryanair staff over what he described as a discriminatory experience involving him and his family in Dublin, Ireland. In a social media post, Sangakkara said the staff’s manner of speaking, alleged failure to follow proper procedures and intimidating behaviour were unacceptable for any passenger. He added that the incident had left him deeply shocked and described it as a bitter experience during his visit to Dublin.
Sangakkara’s post drew a response from Sanjiva Weerawarana, CEO of software company WSO2, who commented that discrimination was part of life in Western countries. Sangakkara replied that the experience of facing discrimination could be deeply distressing. Ryanair, headquartered in Dublin, is one of Europe’s major airlines. Details of any response from the airline regarding Sangakkara’s allegations were not available in the information provided.
