Volkswagen Taigun has achieved a significant milestone in India’s competitive mid-size SUV market by crossing one lakh domestic sales. Launched in September 2021, the SUV has built a presence among buyers looking for a combination of styling, driving performance and safety. According to the figures cited in the report, Taigun recorded wholesale sales of 99,095 units by September 2026. It sold the remaining units needed to cross the one-lakh mark during the first half of October. The model competes in a crowded segment that includes popular SUVs such as the Hyundai Creta and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara.
The Taigun has also made inroads into international markets, with 52,751 units reportedly exported over five years. Developed under Volkswagen’s India 2.0 programme on the MQB A0 IN platform, the SUV has received a five-star safety rating. Its recent facelift introduced design updates, additional features and a new automatic transmission option, helping renew interest among customers. Although sales have faced pressure from competing models, the updated version is expected to support demand. The Taigun remains an important model in Volkswagen’s Indian portfolio, alongside the Virtus sedan, as the company continues to compete in the country’s crowded SUV market.
