Artificial intelligence is rapidly changing the way businesses operate, raising questions about the future of employment across several industries. Zoho founder Sridhar Vembu has highlighted the potential impact of AI on computer-based work, including software engineering and digital marketing. In a statement shared on social media, Vembu said that a skilled person using AI could potentially accomplish work that would previously have required ten people. He stressed that this trend is becoming increasingly real, although it does not mean that 90% of people working on computers will automatically become unnecessary.
Vembu also pointed to opportunities emerging from this shift. Industries that previously could not afford to hire software engineers or digital marketing professionals may now be able to access such skills with the help of AI. However, he cautioned that the resulting changes in the economy could be painful for workers and businesses as roles and resources are redistributed. He urged people to acknowledge the transformation and prepare for what lies ahead. The report also refers to Zoho’s decision not to provide salary increments to employees this year, attributing it to the need to protect the company. These developments have renewed discussion about how AI adoption may affect hiring, productivity, salaries and job security across the technology sector.
