As IPL 2026 reaches its final stage, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has introduced a major new rule for players, support staff, and match officials. The BCCI Anti-Corruption Security Unit (ACSU) has banned the use of smart sunglasses and smart goggles during the tournament.
According to the advisory issued by the BCCI, these smart devices come with advanced features such as live streaming, text messaging, video calls, and audio calls. Since the gadgets work through mobile data or Wi-Fi and can also function as audio and video recording devices, the board considers them a potential security risk. As a result, their use has been completely prohibited in player and official areas.
The BCCI has also instructed players and support staff to deposit their mobile phones, smartwatches, and smart glasses with security officers before entering stadiums on match days. The board warned that strict action would be taken against violators. Recently, Rajasthan Royals official Romy Bhinder was fined ₹1 lakh and given a warning for using a mobile phone in the dugout during a match, following which the BCCI tightened its security measures further.
