FSSAI Bans Sale of Everest Hing Over Quality Violations..

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has prohibited the sale of compounded asafoetida, or hing, manufactured by Everest Food Products, after laboratory tests found the samples to be sub-standard and misbranded. According to FSSAI, compounded hing is required to have at least 5% alcohol-soluble extract, while the tested samples contained only 0–3%. The regulator has directed the company to submit an action plan to address the violations and has advised a voluntary recall of affected products already in the market.

FSSAI also detected compliance issues in Everest Garam Masala, Chicken Masala and Egg Curry Powder, including concerns related to undeclared salt and spice content on labels. However, these three products have not been banned. The latest action follows market surveillance and laboratory testing initiated after a consumer complaint. FSSAI said the measures are aimed at ensuring compliance with prescribed food safety and quality standards and protecting consumer interests.
