Nepal Flash Floods: Rebuilding Damage Could Cost Billions

Nepal is facing a massive recovery challenge following catastrophic flash floods that have caused extensive damage across the country. Billionaire industrialist Binod Chaudhary has estimated that rebuilding destroyed infrastructure, including roads, bridges and power lines, could cost at least $5 billion, or nearly ₹50,000 crore. He described the situation as a major national crisis, particularly because the rugged Himalayan terrain makes reconstruction more difficult and expensive.

Thousands of people have reportedly been displaced, while critical transportation networks and local infrastructure have suffered severe damage. Relief agencies, local authorities and the army are continuing rescue and relief operations while preparations for long-term rehabilitation are also getting underway.
