No Ganesh Immersion Allowed in Kapra Lake - HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath

HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath has said that Ganesh idol immersion should not be carried out in Kapra Lake, as the 113-acre water body has been identified as an urban wetland. He said protecting the lake’s biodiversity and its role as a habitat for migratory birds is important, and therefore immersion activities could have an adverse impact on the ecosystem. For smaller Ganesh idols, devotees have been advised to use the designated baby pond, while alternative arrangements should be made for larger idols.

Ranganath said HYDRAA is working towards developing Kapra Lake in an environmentally sustainable manner and appealed to citizens to cooperate with the efforts. The move is aimed at balancing festival activities with the protection of the lake’s ecological significance. Authorities are expected to encourage devotees to use designated immersion facilities to minimise the impact on the main water body.
