The controversy surrounding Bangladesh’s participation in the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup has taken a new turn. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), which has expressed reluctance to play matches in India, placed a fresh proposal before the International Cricket Council (ICC).
BCB reportedly requested a group swap with Ireland so that all of Bangladesh’s group-stage matches could be played in Sri Lanka. The matter was discussed during a recent meeting.
However, Cricket Ireland firmly rejected the proposal, stating that the ICC has assured them there will be no changes to their assigned schedule. An official from Cricket Ireland confirmed that their group-stage matches will be played entirely in Sri Lanka, as originally planned.
According to the current schedule, Bangladesh is placed in Group C alongside West Indies, Italy, England, and Nepal, with matches scheduled in Kolkata and Mumbai.
Ireland, on the other hand, is in Group B with Australia, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, and Oman, with all group matches set to take place in Sri Lanka. Given Ireland’s stance, Bangladesh’s proposal appears unlikely to move forward.
