Cricket history was rewritten on Saturday at the Gabba, Brisbane, as Abhishek Sharma became the fastest player in the world to score 1,000 runs in T20 Internationals for a single country. The explosive left-hander reached the milestone in just 528 balls during the 5th T20I against Australia, surpassing all previous global benchmarks.
Abhishek shattered the record previously held by Australia’s Tim David, who had taken 569 balls to reach the same mark during his 74-run knock in Hobart earlier this month. The young Indian’s incredible achievement also makes him the fastest Indian ever to reach 1,000 T20I runs — a feat that cements his rising status in world cricket.
Before this, Suryakumar Yadav held the Indian record with 573 balls, followed by New Zealand’s Finn Allen with 611 balls. Notably, Tim David now drops to sixth place overall, considering his combined stats for Singapore and Australia. With this stunning record, Abhishek Sharma has announced himself as the new powerhouse of Indian T20 cricket.
