The Congress party has begun preparations for the upcoming local body elections in Andhra Pradesh. Party state president Y.S. Sharmila has announced a state-level committee to oversee the selection of Congress candidates. The committee will function under the leadership of state working presidents J.D. Seelam and Mastan Vali. Sharmila held a Zoom meeting with state working presidents and district presidents on Monday to discuss the party’s strategy for the local elections.
Sharmila directed party leaders to identify eligible and strong candidates across the state while giving priority to leaders joining the Congress from other political parties. Describing the Congress as the alternative to the ruling party, she urged party leaders to make effective use of the opportunity to strengthen the party’s presence and stand by the people. She said pending district committee formations and appointments of in-charges would be completed within two days.
