The Union Government is set to present the Budget for the financial year 2026–27 with a focus on sustainable growth and faster economic reforms. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the budget in the Lok Sabha at 11 a.m. on Sunday, marking her ninth consecutive budget and the first time a Union Budget is presented on a Sunday since Independence.
Sluggish domestic demand, easing but persistent inflation, global uncertainty, geopolitical tensions, and volatile commodity prices are expected to influence budget priorities. The government faces the dual challenge of boosting employment while keeping the fiscal deficit under control and restoring investor confidence amid global headwinds.
Despite fiscal pressures, higher spending on infrastructure, railways, renewable energy, defence, and urban transport is expected. Support for small businesses, clean energy technologies, electric mobility, and manufacturing may feature prominently. While major tax reforms are unlikely, limited relief in personal income tax to encourage consumption is being anticipated.
