Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has written to the Election Commission seeking an extension of the deadline for filing claims and objections under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. He requested that the September 16 deadline be extended by a few more weeks and also sought an extension of the timeline for publication of the final electoral rolls. The Chief Minister said 73.39 lakh entries are currently under the ASDD category.
Revanth Reddy expressed concern that voters who have temporarily moved to other places could potentially be treated as permanently shifted. He urged the Election Commission to assist voters in registering at their new addresses and provide adequate time to respond to notices. He also called for measures to ensure that eligible voters are not excluded from the rolls and sought additional staff at the ERO level. The Chief Minister assured the EC of the state government’s full cooperation in the SIR exercise.
