The Union Government has recently released ₹387 crore to Telangana under the 15th Finance Commission grants for the development of Gram Panchayats. Earlier, ₹259.36 crore was released in the first installment, taking the total funds disbursed so far to ₹646.36 crore, according to the Panchayati Raj and Rural Development Department. Officials stated that the funds were sanctioned in accordance with norms after the successful completion of Gram Panchayat elections in the state and submission of all required utilization reports and information sought by the Centre. The amount will be utilized for strengthening rural infrastructure, sanitation, drinking water facilities, and improvement of village roads.
However, out of nearly ₹3,000 crore due to Telangana under the 15th Finance Commission, around ₹2,400 crore remains pending, the state government noted. Minister for Panchayati Raj and Rural Development, Dr. Danasari Anasuya Seethakka, urged the Centre to release the pending funds without delay to ensure comprehensive rural development and financial empowerment of local bodies. She emphasized that stronger coordination between the Centre and the State is essential to accelerate rural progress and enhance service delivery at the grassroots level.
