Harish Rao Condemns Alleged Police High-Handedness in Suryapet

Former Telangana minister Harish Rao has strongly criticised what he described as alleged police high-handedness in several parts of the state. Referring to recent incidents reported from Mahabubabad, Nagarkurnool and Suryapet, Rao alleged that police officials have acted excessively against members of the public. He cited an allegation involving a police officer allegedly behaving violently with a polytechnic student in Mahabubabad and another complaint in Thimmajipet, Nagarkurnool district, where a person who approached the police over an alleged insult to his daughter was reportedly subjected to assault and other humiliating treatment.

Rao also alleged that cases were being registered over social media posts in Suryapet and raised concerns over the removal of a roadside snack stall in Kodad and alleged police action against those protesting the move. Questioning whether Telangana is witnessing democratic governance or “police rule”, he alleged that opposition leaders and ordinary citizens are facing pressure for raising questions or demanding their rights. Rao appealed to Telangana DGP to ensure that such incidents do not recur, conduct inquiries into the allegations and take immediate action against officials found responsible.
