

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has welcomed the interim trade agreement reached between India and the United States, calling it great news for both nations. Reacting to the development, Modi expressed his gratitude to former US President Donald Trump through a post on social media platform X. He stated that the framework for the interim trade deal reflects the growing partnership, trust, and shared commitment between the two countries. Modi also thanked Trump for his personal efforts in strengthening bilateral relations.
Highlighting the benefits of the agreement, the Prime Minister said the deal would open new opportunities for Indian farmers, MSMEs, startups, innovators, and fishermen, while further strengthening the Make in India initiative. He added that the agreement would create large-scale employment opportunities for women and youth. Meanwhile, Washington DC announced that tariffs on Indian goods would be reduced from 50 percent to 18 percent. India has also agreed to imports worth 500 billion dollars from the US. Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal described the agreement as a historic achievement, stating that it opens access for Indian exporters to a 30 trillion dollar market.
