Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president and MLC Mahesh Kumar Goud extended Vinayaka Chavithi greetings to the people of Telangana, political leaders and the media. Speaking at a media conference at Gandhi Bhavan, he said that although it was a festival day, political issues had to be discussed under unavoidable circumstances. Goud strongly criticised the BRS over the alleged remarks made against the Speaker on the basis of caste and said they reflected the party’s attitude towards Dalits. He alleged that the comments were deliberate and recalled how the Dalit card was used during the Telangana movement. He also said people had witnessed the alleged humiliation of figures such as Gaddar and Andesri.
Goud said he was releasing a document containing the promises made by KCR in 2003 and demanded that the former chief minister issue a white paper on their implementation. He questioned how many beneficiaries actually received Dalit Bandhu and alleged that the scheme was introduced primarily with the Huzurabad by-election in mind. Goud said merely installing an Ambedkar statue was not enough and that his ideals and values should be implemented in practice. He also criticised the alleged incident of purifying land after Dalits had walked on it, calling it an insult to the community. Goud said Congress had honoured Dalits by giving them the highest constitutional positions and challenged the BRS to make Talasani Srinivas Yadav the Leader of the Opposition instead of holding a “mock assembly” as a publicity exercise.
