Telangana BJP Legislature Party leader and Nirmal MLA Aleti Maheshwar Reddy has criticised the state government over its preparedness for El Niño, drought conditions and farmers’ distress. Speaking to the media at the Secretariat, he alleged that the government had announced an all-party meeting on El Niño without clearly explaining the relief measures planned for farmers. Citing assistance announced by Maharashtra and Gujarat, he demanded compensation of ₹15,000 per acre for farmers affected by crop losses. He also questioned the delay in crop enumeration, the criteria used to declare drought-affected mandals and the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana. Reddy further alleged that farmers were not receiving the promised 24-hour free electricity supply and called for advance arrangements to prevent fodder shortages for livestock.
Reddy also raised concerns over drinking water shortages in Hyderabad, rising rice prices and the government’s handling of irrigation resources. He accused the Congress government of failing to provide adequate relief to farmers and criticised Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy over his frequent visits to Delhi. Referring to the Kaleshwaram project, he said the state government had failed to complete necessary repairs despite the passage of three years, and called for immediate action. Reddy also claimed that the Centre had provided ₹12 lakh crore to Telangana over the past 12 years. His remarks reflect the BJP’s criticism of the state government’s drought preparedness and agricultural policies; the allegations and financial figures have not been independently verified here.
