Ahead of the Jubilee Hills by-election, all liquor outlets across Hyderabad will remain closed for four days. The dry days will be in effect from 6 PM on November 9 to 6 PM on November 12, as per the directives issued by the Excise Department. Additionally, liquor shops, bars, and clubs will also remain closed on November 14, the vote-counting day. If a repoll is required, the same restrictions will apply.
These orders were issued by Cyberabad Police Commissioner Avinash Mohanty under Section 20 of the Excise Act, 1968 and Section 135-C of the Representation of People Act, 1951. This by-election has drawn unprecedented competition — 58 candidates are contesting, the highest number in Jubilee Hills’ electoral history. Major contenders include Naveen Yadav (Congress), Maganti Sunitha (BRS), and Lankala Deepak Reddy (BJP). The Congress aims to reinforce its ruling power, while the BRS seeks to regain its stronghold. Meanwhile, the BJP hopes to secure victory and boost its presence in the city.
While the election heats up politically, the four-day liquor ban comes as a disappointment to tipplers across Hyderabad.
