Ongole MP Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy criticised YSRCP president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, alleging that despite promising to complete the Veligonda Project before the 2019 elections, the project was not completed during his five-year tenure. Speaking emotionally at the Veligonda Project inauguration on Monday, Magunta alleged that a pylon was constructed and the project was portrayed as having been dedicated to the nation when elections were approaching. He said that in his 30-year political career, he had never witnessed such a joyous moment and expressed happiness at being able to attend the historic occasion.
Magunta praised Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, saying his determination and vision were instrumental in completing the project. He stated that nearly Rs. 2,000 crore was spent over the last two and a half years to complete the works. He also credited Chandrababu with providing Rs. 900 crore in rehabilitation packages to displaced families within a short period. Magunta said seeing Krishna waters flow through the Veligonda region was an emotional and unforgettable moment. He travelled directly from Chennai by helicopter to attend the inauguration ceremony.
