INS Nipun Joins the Indian Navy

The indigenous Diving Support Vessel (DSV) INS Nipun, designed to carry out complex underwater operations, was officially inducted into the Indian Navy on Monday. The vessel was commissioned at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai in the presence of Navy Chief Admiral Krishna Swaminathan. INS Nipun is the second Diving Support Vessel to join the Navy after INS Nistar, which was inducted into service last year.

INS Nipun was built using indigenous technology by Hindustan Shipyard Limited in Visakhapatnam. With a displacement capacity of 10,500 tonnes, the vessel can support diving operations at depths of up to 300 metres. It is also expected to play a crucial role in submarine rescue operations and provide support for specialised and complex underwater missions, strengthening the Indian Navy’s maritime operational capabilities.
