Leading fintech company PhonePe has introduced a special service called UPI 123Pay exclusively for feature phone users. This innovative offering allows users to make UPI payments even without an internet connection, bringing digital payment access to more than 20 crore feature phone users across the country. The service relies on an SMS-based system to ensure reliable transactions, particularly in areas with only 2G connectivity.
To expand the reach of UPI 123Pay, PhonePe has partnered with major mobile manufacturers including Nokia, HMD, Lava International and itel Mobile. The service will be pre-bundled with new feature phones, meaning it will be available right from the time of purchase, making digital payments more accessible and convenient for millions of users.
