Supreme Court Takes Key Decision on CJP Rally Ban

Chief Justice of India Justice Surya Kant on Monday rejected a plea seeking an order to ban a protest rally planned by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) in Delhi on September 5. The party has decided to hold the protest on Teachers’ Day, alleging that the Central government has failed to fulfil assurances given when its agitation was called off on July 25. The CJP said the proposed rally was aimed at pressing the government to address its pending demands and fulfil the commitments made earlier.

The party has also invited family members of those who allegedly died by suicide following the cancellation of the NEET examination, as well as people who were allegedly subjected to police violence during the agitation. Retired police officer Rajendra Singh had approached the Supreme Court seeking restrictions on large gatherings without prior permission in security-sensitive areas. However, the Chief Justice rejected the request seeking a ban on the proposed protest rally.
