Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagender has approached the Supreme Court challenging the Telangana High Court verdict that disqualified him from the state Assembly. The High Court disqualified Nagender on September 18 in a defection case. On September 19, he filed a petition before the Supreme Court challenging the verdict. The petition is expected to come up for hearing on September 21, according to reports.
Meanwhile, the BRS is reported to have filed a caveat in the Supreme Court in anticipation of Nagender’s appeal. Through the caveat, the party has sought an opportunity to present its arguments if Nagender’s petition is taken up. Nagender was elected from Khairatabad on a BRS ticket in the 2023 Assembly elections and later contested the 2024 Lok Sabha polls from Secunderabad as a Congress candidate. The High Court subsequently set aside the Speaker’s order and disqualified him under the anti-defection provisions.
