The TDP-Jana Sena-BJP alliance has registered a spectacular victory in the Andhra Pradesh urban local body elections, repeating its strong performance in the 2024 Assembly elections. The alliance secured victories across North Andhra, Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema, establishing its dominance in major municipal corporations and municipalities. According to the reported results, YSRCP managed to win only three municipalities out of the 100 election locations, including Nandikotkur, Naidupeta and Bethamcherla. TDP candidate Mukka Sravani secured a massive majority of 2,44,644 votes to become Visakhapatnam Mayor, while TDP's Kovelamudi Lakshmi Aparna won the Guntur Mayor's post with a majority of 96,294 votes. In Vijayawada, Jana Sena candidate Vangaveeti Radhakrishna was leading by approximately 1.24 lakh votes as counting continued late Tuesday night. The alliance also secured victories in Vijayawada's surrounding urban regions and several other municipalities. However, YSRCP maintained a narrow lead in Anantapur Corporation, while rebel candidates won in Adoni and Nellimarla. Counting in Chirala was postponed due to heavy rainfall, and the counting process in Ongole began after midnight.
The alliance's performance was particularly strong in YSR Kadapa district, where it secured victories in several municipalities, including Pulivendula, Jammalamadugu, Proddatur, Badvel, Mydukur, Rajampet and Kamalapuram. In Pulivendula, the alliance won the chairperson's post and 37 wards, while YSRCP managed to secure only three wards. The alliance also benefited from unanimous victories in several municipal chairperson elections. Jana Sena recorded a 100% strike rate in the 15 municipalities and three nagar panchayats where it contested for chairperson positions. According to the provisional ward results available at the time of reporting, TDP won 1,298 wards, Jana Sena secured 298, BJP won 81 and YSRCP managed 367, while rebels and independents secured 87 seats. The results underline the alliance's strong performance in urban local bodies and represent a significant electoral setback for YSRCP. The outcome also highlights the continued political significance of the TDP-Jana Sena-BJP alliance in Andhra Pradesh.
