YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) chief and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has strongly criticised the conduct of the state's urban local body elections following the announcement of the results. In a sarcastic post on X, he congratulated Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, the police and the State Election Commission (SEC), alleging that the opposition was not given a fair opportunity to contest. Jagan claimed that irregularities occurred at every stage of the election process, including the filing and scrutiny of nominations, withdrawal of candidates, polling arrangements and vote counting. He also alleged that polling agents were obstructed or forced to leave, and that the polling percentage was manipulated.
Describing the elections as “selections” rather than genuine democratic contests, Jagan alleged that the ruling alliance had effectively chosen the candidates instead of allowing voters to elect their representatives freely. He also questioned the role of the police and the State Election Commission, accusing them of failing to ensure a fair electoral process. Calling for immediate electoral reforms, he said the alleged irregularities highlighted the need to strengthen democratic institutions and protect the right to vote. These statements reflect Jagan's allegations; the claims of electoral malpractice have not been independently established by the reports cited.
