Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay's government has issued a key order allowing cinemas to resume early-morning screenings and increase the number of shows per day. According to the order issued on November 3, 2026, theatres can screen five shows daily during the first week of a film's release. The permitted screening window will be from 6 AM to 2:30 AM the following day. The move is expected to bring relief to movie lovers, particularly fans eager to watch new releases on the first day.
The government has also allowed theatres to screen up to six shows on weekends and national and state holidays. Until now, cinemas in Tamil Nadu were permitted to operate from 9 AM and hold only four shows a day. The new decision could benefit films such as Suriya's Scene and Nayanthara's Mookuthi Amman 2, both scheduled for release on November 6. Early morning shows were previously restricted after a fan died during celebrations for Ajith's film Thunivu outside Rohini Silver Screens. Following the incident, the then DMK government tightened screening regulations and discontinued early-morning shows.
