US President Donald Trump has announced that the United States will stop providing around $4 billion in annual aid to Israel by the end of 2026. Speaking to Fox News, Trump said he had reached an understanding with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to end the financial assistance. He claimed that Israel had become a successful and self-reliant country and no longer needed the funding. Trump also indicated that the decision would not prevent Israel from purchasing American-made weapons and military equipment.
However, the exact details of the proposed move remain unclear. The existing US-Israel security assistance agreement provides approximately $3.8 billion in annual military aid and is scheduled to run through 2028. It is not yet clear how Trump's announcement would affect the current agreement or whether a formal arrangement has been finalised. Netanyahu's office had not immediately commented on the announcement. Trump maintained that the United States would continue to support Israel if it needed assistance.
