Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy wrote a letter on Tuesday to Union Minister Kishan Reddy, raising key concerns related to the lands of Warangal Fort. In the letter, the Chief Minister urged that the lands belonging to Warangal Fort be officially recognized as properties under the control of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). He also requested immediate removal of illegal constructions within the fort limits and sought the eviction of encroachers occupying the fort lands.
Highlighting the historical importance of Warangal, Revanth Reddy noted that Orugallu (Warangal) served as the capital of the Kakatiya dynasty for nearly 250 years and stands as a symbol of Telangana’s rich cultural heritage. He pointed out that, apart from the three main fortification walls, several other areas of the fort have been encroached upon by local residents, where numerous unauthorized structures have been erected.
In the letter, Kishan Reddy stated that Warangal Fort is a protected monument under ASI and that encroachment or illegal construction on such land constitutes a punishable offence under the law. He mentioned that ASI officials have issued notices to encroachers on multiple occasions, but there has been no significant change on the ground.
The Chief Minister appealed to the Central Government to intervene immediately and take necessary steps to safeguard and preserve the lands of Warangal Fort, emphasizing the need to protect this invaluable historical heritage.
