The CBI has once again issued notices to TVK chief Vijay, asking him to appear for another round of questioning on the 19th of this month. As part of the ongoing investigation, Vijay was questioned for nearly seven hours on Monday at the CBI headquarters in New Delhi. After the long inquiry, officials decided that further questioning was required and issued fresh notices.
The case is related to the stampede that occurred during a TVK party public meeting in Karur on September 27 last year. In the tragic incident, 41 people lost their lives and more than 100 were injured. Following directions from the Supreme Court, the CBI has been conducting a detailed investigation into the incident.
During the inquiry, Vijay reportedly stated that his party had no role in the Karur stampede. He is said to have told officials that the incident happened due to police failure and that he left the venue immediately after realizing the seriousness of the situation. Vijay also reportedly claimed that the DMK government is making false allegations against him because it is unable to accept his political growth.
