The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has made its services more accessible by introducing WhatsApp-based facilities for subscribers. Union Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya launched the new services on Sunday, marking EPFO’s 74th Foundation Day. Members can now use WhatsApp to check their PF balance, view their last five transactions and access passbook details. They can also seek information and assistance related to the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana (PMVBRY). To use these facilities, subscribers must send a message from the mobile number registered with their PF account. The EPFO has also introduced automatic settlement for eligible inoperative accounts. If an Aadhaar-verified inoperative account has a balance of up to ₹1,000, the member need not submit a separate claim. The EPFO will verify the Aadhaar and bank account details and transfer the amount directly to the beneficiary’s bank account. Nearly one lakh accounts are expected to receive a total of around ₹5 crore through this facility.
To check the PF balance through WhatsApp, members must send Hi from their registered mobile number to +91 87964 41800. After selecting their preferred language, they can choose options such as latest PF balance, last five transactions and passbook download from the menu. Selecting the balance option will prompt them to complete OTP verification using the code received on their registered mobile number. They can then view their total PF savings, employee and employer contributions, pension fund balance and details of the latest transaction. The passbook can also be downloaded through the main menu; the date of birth must be entered in the prescribed format to open the PDF. The Labour Minister stated that EPFO currently manages a corpus of nearly ₹32 lakh crore, with contributions from more than eight crore members.
