The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) is taking steps to reduce pollution and improve public transportation by gradually shifting towards electric mobility. As part of its clean energy initiative, the corporation has started working on converting old diesel buses into electric vehicles through a process known as retrofitting. The move is aimed at reducing pollution levels, particularly in Hyderabad, where vehicle emissions remain a major concern.
The RTC management plans to implement the initiative in phases, giving old diesel buses a new lease of life as electric vehicles. Along with promoting environment-friendly transport, the corporation also aims to provide passengers with modern and improved travel facilities. Details regarding the total number of buses to be retrofitted and the timeline for their return to service are yet to be specified.
