In a significant development, the Supreme Court of India has dismissed a petition filed by noted businessman Anil Ambani challenging an order of the Bombay High Court. A three-judge bench led by Justice Surya Kant heard the matter on Thursday and declined to intervene, stating that the case involves alleged diversion of funds and that no opinion would be expressed at this stage. The bench advised that legal remedies remain available to the petitioner.
The court also permitted Ambani to present his arguments before the single-judge bench of the High Court regarding the show-cause notices issued by banks, and directed that the process be completed expeditiously. As per the 2024 master directions of the Reserve Bank of India, loan accounts linked to Ambani and Reliance Communications were classified as fraudulent by Bank of Baroda, Indian Overseas Bank, and IDBI Bank. The banks have initiated action, while the High Court had earlier granted interim relief by staying the decision.
