Union Home Minister Amit Shah clarified the proposed increase in Lok Sabha seats across southern states, countering criticism from opposition parties. He stated that Telangana will see an increase from 17 to 26 seats, while Andhra Pradesh is set to rise from 25 to 38 seats. Karnataka’s representation is expected to expand from 28 to 42, Tamil Nadu from 39 to 59, and Kerala from 20 to 30 seats.
Rejecting allegations, Shah emphasized that the seat expansion in southern states will be proportionally higher than their population share, dismissing opposition claims as misleading. He asserted that the delimitation process aims to ensure fair and balanced representation across regions, and urged political parties not to spread misinformation regarding the exercise.
