A major encounter took place between security forces and Maoists in the Chhote Bethiya area of Kanker district in Chhattisgarh. In the intense exchange of fire, Rupireddy, reportedly the last Telugu Maoist active in the Bastar region, was killed. According to Kanker Superintendent of Police, a significant cache of weapons was recovered from the encounter site. Officials stated that a few other Maoists managed to escape during the gunfight.
Rupireddy was a member of the North Bastar Area Committee. Notably, her husband Vijay Reddy had also been killed in an encounter in 2025. Security forces are continuing combing operations in the region to track down the fleeing extremists.
