Mumbai: Rajya Sabha MP Sunetra Pawar, wife of late NCP leader Ajit Pawar, has been unanimously elected as the Nationalist Congress Party’s legislative party leader. The decision was taken during a meeting of NCP MLAs held at the Legislative Building on Saturday. Her name was proposed by MLA Dilip Walse Patil and supported by minister Chhagan Bhujbal.
Following this, Sunetra Pawar was elected without any opposition as the party’s floor leader. She will be replacing Ajit Pawar in the Maharashtra state cabinet.
Sunetra Pawar is scheduled to take oath as Deputy Chief Minister at 5 PM on Saturday. With this, she will create history by becoming the first woman Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra.
