Severe cold conditions are sweeping across northern states of India, with the national capital Delhi experiencing temperatures dropping to record lows, causing discomfort for residents. According to the latest reports, Ayanagar in Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 2.9°C this season. Thick fog during early mornings has reduced visibility, creating difficulties for commuters. The fog has also impacted air and rail services, leading to delays in several operations. The Meteorological Department has issued an ‘Yellow Alert’, warning that temperatures in Delhi may drop further over the next 2–3 days.
Meanwhile, states like Jammu & Kashmir, Rajasthan, Punjab and Haryana are witnessing dangerously low temperatures. In Srinagar, the temperature fell to -6°C, partially freezing the famous Dal Lake, while water in canals is also freezing. Pratapgarh in Rajasthan recorded -2°C and Batinda in Punjab 1.6°C as minimum temperatures. Even plains are experiencing temperatures below freezing, causing daily life disruptions. Additionally, snowfall in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand is accompanied by strong cold winds, affecting northern India. Authorities have advised residents to stay alert and take necessary precautions.
