In view of the Sankranthi festival, the number of people traveling from Hyderabad to districts in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh is expected to increase significantly. Against this backdrop, Hyderabad Traffic Police have issued a prior warning about the possibility of increased traffic congestion in the city. They stated that due to the increase in travel for the festival holidays, congestion is inevitable on major roads, bus stands, and railway stations.
According to the traffic police advisory, traffic volume of vehicles leaving the city will be high from January 9th to 13th, while the traffic returning to Hyderabad will be high from January 16th to 19th, 2026. They stated that moderate to heavy traffic jams are likely in areas such as Kacheguda and Secunderabad railway stations, the MGBS-Aramghar route, SR Nagar-Lakdikapool, Rethibowli-Aramghar, Kacheguda-Ramanthapur, and MGBS-Dilsukhnagar.
The traffic police advised commuters to plan their journeys in advance and avoid peak hours as much as possible. They suggested leaving early for bus and train journeys and using alternative routes. They also urged people to use the metro rail and public transport services, and to cooperate with the police by following traffic rules. Officials stated that everyone's cooperation is needed to ensure a safe and smooth Sankranthi festival.
