The Central Government has made substantial allocations for the development of railway projects in Andhra Pradesh. Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that a record budget of Rs. 10,134 crore has been allocated to Andhra Pradesh for the financial year 2026 – 27. He shared the key highlights during a virtual media interaction held on February 2, 2026, from New Delhi.
The Minister stated that during the 2009 – 14 period, the undivided Andhra Pradesh received an average annual railway allocation of only Rs. 886 crore, whereas the current allocation to Andhra Pradesh is nearly 11 times higher. He added that railway infrastructure projects worth Rs. 92,649 crore are currently underway across the state, and the railway network in Andhra Pradesh has achieved 100 percent electrification.
Ashwini Vaishnaw also announced seven high-speed rail corridors across the country, of which the Hyderabad – Bengaluru and Hyderabad – Chennai corridors pass through Andhra Pradesh. These corridors are expected to significantly reduce travel time, bringing Hyderabad – Bengaluru travel down to 2 hours and Hyderabad – Chennai to about 2 hours and 55 minutes. The projects are expected to boost connectivity, economic growth, and overall infrastructure development in the state.
